What this covers. Businesses that sell alcohol, anywhere in New York, plus New York City restaurants at inspection. New York publishes no all-trades list of new shops, so salons, gyms and most retail aren't here. New company filings are listed separately and never counted as openings.

Monday morning

Azul Bar & Grill just landed on the Hudson Valley list.

Restaurant in White Plains. Status: conditionally approved. A new place needs a POS, insurance, signs, supplies and staff. If you sell any of that, this is the name you want on your desk on Monday, with the week still ahead of you.

That’s a real row from New York State Liquor Authority pending licenses, not a sample. The free email gives you the names. Pro gives you the address and more.

Separately: 503 new company filings with a storefront-style name in the last 14 days. Paperwork, not openings, so they aren’t in any count above. See them on each region page.

How it works

The paperwork shows up first

A new business leaves a public paper trail. That trail is how we see openings coming.

Step 1

The record gets published

Applicants for a liquor license show up on the State Liquor Authority's pending list, with the address and the date received. New York City restaurants get a pre-permit health inspection.

Step 2

We read and sort it

We read both every day, keep only new applications (not renewals), and sort them into seven regions by county.

Step 3

You see it, with its limits

Applications can sit for months, and some are denied. We show the status the state shows, and we never count a company filing as an opening.
